I don’t always go for the cats, or at least, that’s what I tell myself—which is a complete lie since the cats are truly the main highlight of this trip. Sometimes I just want an iced latte and a place to sit where the expectations are low. But the cats are the reason the silence feels comfortable rather than lonely.
The first time I ever went to a cat cafe was out of sheer impulse. I always hear about it in social media, in Tiktok especially. So when I saw the sign outside while I was walking by, I entered but I was told that the walk-in appointments were all taken up. But since I was already determined to experience being inside such cafe, I googled around and found one nearby and went to it. And it was the best experience ever, just cats, coffee, you, and more cats around you.
In a regular café, solitude can feel like a performance; you are the person alone with a book or a laptop, surrounded by the chatter of others. In a cat café, however, solitude is the norm. The presence of these quiet, graceful creatures changes the rhythm of the room. I watch a tuxedo cat sleeping on a high shelf, his breathing slow and rhythmic, and I feel my own shoulders drop an inch.
And before I knew it, I kept visiting multiple ones whenever I can, just so I can see these fluffy creatures. The foods are great, don’t get me wrong; but it’s the cats that are the sole reason why I go to these places. I mean, who could resist, right?

For me, visiting these cafés isn’t just about the novelty of petting an animal. It’s a form of emotional regulation. It’s a reminder that it is okay to move slowly, to sleep when you’re tired, and to be selective about who you give your energy to. The cats teach us that comfort doesn’t always have to be active or productive. Sometimes, comfort is just sitting still, sipping a drink, and letting the quiet settle around you like a soft blanket.
